Athletic Bilbao host Real Sociedad at San Mames on Saturday afternoon in a Basque derby.
Athletic Bilbao are currently 14th in La Liga, five points clear of the relegation zone. Jose Angel Ziganda’s team are now four games unbeaten in the Spanish top-flight after a 2-1 win at Levante last time out.
Despite the upturn in fortunes in La Liga, three of those four unbeaten games have finished in draws. In fact, the victory over Levante ended a six-game run without a victory for the home side.
Even Athletic’s usually good home form has been inconsistent of late in La Liga, as they have won one, drawn one and lost two of their last five games at San Mames.
Their recent league games on home soil have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last eight games.
Real Sociedad heads into this game on the back of four straight defeats in all competitions. La Real have fallen to tenth in La Liga, having failed to win any of their last four games in the Spanish top-flight.
Last time out, Eusebio’s team suffered a 2-0 home defeat by Malaga. However, despite their recent blip, the men from San Sebastian are just two points behind sixth-place Villarreal.
The visitors have a poor recent away record in La Liga, though, suffering three defeats in their last five outings on their travels in the Spanish top-flight, and winning just once.
Real Sociedad’s recent away games in La Liga have been high scoring, as six of their last eight away games have produced over 2.5 goals. A big factor in that record is the fact that Eusebio’s team have conceded two or more goals in six of their last eight games on the road in La Liga.
Forebet predicts that this game will be a tight contest and finish in a low scoring draw, which helps neither side in their pursuit of their respective aims this season.
