Alaves set to claim vital win against fellow strugglers
La Liga strugglers Alaves and Las Palmas go head-to-head on Friday night in the Spanish top-flight, as both teams look to escape the relegation zone.
Alaves are currently second from bottom in La Liga and three points from safety. Even a win may not be good enough to move them out of the drop zone.
The home side have lost 11 of their last 14 games in the Spanish top-flight this season, accruing just nine points in the league. Abelardo’s side have actually enjoyed mixed fortunes of late, despite their lowly position, as they have won two and lost two of their last four La Liga games.
Last time out, they recorded a 3-2 win at Girona to end a two-game losing streak. The strugglers have at least offered entertainment value for their fans in La Liga of late, as the four of their last five games have produced over 2.5 goals.
Alaves’ recent home record is woeful, as they have lost six of their last seven La Liga games on home soil while conceding two or more goals in all six of the defeats.
Las Palmas are just a point and place better off than the home side after a poor La Liga campaign so far. The Islanders have picked up just ten points this season and have the worst goal difference in the Spanish top-flight.
However, like the hosts, the visitors recorded a victory last time out, winning 1-0 at home against Real Betis. The win ended a nine-game winless run, in which Paquito Ortiz’s side suffered eight defeats.
The visitors are poor travellers, having won just one of their last 25 away games in La Liga while suffering defeats in four of their last five league outings on their travels.
There is not much between these two teams, so this could be a close game. However, Forebet predicts that home side will record a win and leapfrog the visitors in the table.
