Liverpool set to seal Champions League knockout spot

Jurgen Klopp’s team are currently top of the group and three points clear of the third-place visitors. However, the Reds superior goal difference means that Spartak would have to record a massive win to pip the Merseysiders to a qualification spot.
The home side will want to win the game, though, as a win would see them head into the knockout stages as group winners, potentially giving them an easier draw in the last-16.
Liverpool’s recent record in Europe’s elite competition is decent, as they are now nine games unbeaten. Klopp’s team have drawn three of their five group games this season, though.
Last time out in this competition, the Merseysiders threw away a three-goal lead in Spain to draw 3-3 with qualification rivals Sevilla.
Spartak Moscow knows that they have already claimed a Europa League spot by occupying third place in the group. However, the Russian side will be keen on getting a good result at Anfield, even if it is not the heavy win they need to progress.
The visitors have actually won just one of their group games this season, drawing three and losing one. In fact, Spartak have won just one of their last eight games in Europe’s elite competition.
The Russian team have also struggled to win games on their travels in the Champions League, failing to win any of their last seven away games in the competition, while suffering four defeats in the process.
A big problem on their travels of late in the Champions League has been keeping the opposition out. The visitors have conceded two or more goals in four of their last five away outings.
