Bottom of the Table Battle in Serie A

The weekend action spills over into Monday night this weekend in Serie A and the late kick-off is a match between Hellas Verona and Genoa.

This is a crucial game at the bottom of Serie A, with both teams in danger of being involved in a relegation battle this season.

The hosts, Hellas Verona start the game in 19th place with 9 points from their fourteen games played.  In many other Serie A seasons this would see them at the bottom of the table but fortunately for Hellas Verona, Benevento have been so poor they have remained off the foot of the table.

Genoa travel to the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi just 1 point better off than their hosts and know a defeat could see them finish this weekend in the relegation zone.

Trends show Hellas Verona have won only two of their fourteen league games this season but one of those wins came at Sassuolo last weekend.  That victory plus the penalty win over Chievo Verona in the Coppa Italia in mid-week means Hellas Verona are unbeaten in their last two games.

However, they have won only one of their seven home Serie A games this season, which was a 1-0 victory over Benevento, the only team below them in the league table.

Hellas Verona have conceded 5 goals in their last three home Serie A games but have managed to score in each of their last three on home soil.

Genoa come into this match unbeaten in their last three games in all competitions. The run started with a 1-0 win at Crotone followed by a 1-1 draw at home with Roma, both in Serie A.  In mid-week Genoa defeated Crotone again by the same scoreline but this time at home in the Coppa Italia.

Trends show Genoa have won only two of their last fifteen Serie A games and this is a match between two teams who have really been struggling to pick up maximum points from games.

However, Genoa have been in decent form on the road and have lost only one of their last four away Serie A games.  The only downside to their recent away form is the defeat was at SPAL, a team currently below them in the table.

Team News for the home team and both Riccardo Brosco and Matteo Bianchetti will miss the game due to injury.  Hellas Verona are also without Mohamed Fares and Thomas Heurtaux, who are suspended.

Genoa will be without the injured Andrej Galabinov but every other player is expected to be available.  The visitors could start Goran Pandev up-front with support from Adel Taarabt.

Neither of these teams have been scoring a great deal of goals this season and we are not expecting a highly entertaining game in-front of goal.  A defeat is unthinkable for both but Genoa have been in much better form in Serie A and could come away with a narrow victory.
