Two Out of Form Teams Meet at Stade Matmut-Atlantique

This week there is a full round of mid-week fixtures in Ligue 1 and the action gets under way on Tuesday night as Bordeaux welcome Saint Etienne to the Stade Matmut-Atlantique.

This is a huge match for both teams as despite being 13th and 8th respectively in the league, both are currently closer to the relegation battle than they are to the European qualifying places for next season.

A defeat for either team could see them drop further down the table and thoughts will be turning to the battle at the bottom of Ligue 1 rather than the competition at the top.

Bordeaux come into this match on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Caen on the weekend.  It was their fifth defeat in seven Ligue 1 games and trends show they have failed to win any of their last seven matches in the league.

The main problem for Bordeaux in recent matches has been scoring goals and they have managed to find the back of the net in only one of their previous five Ligue 1 games and that was the 1-1 home draw with Marseille two weeks ago.

The one good thing to point to for Bordeaux is their home record and they have lost just one of their last 12 Ligue 1 games at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique but have won only one of their last five.

Saint Etienne also suffered a poor result on the weekend as they were held to a 2-2 home draw with Strasbourg, who currently sit just above the relegation places.  Having twice taken the lead in the game, Saint Etienne will feel they should have won the match.

Trends show Saint Etienne have failed to win any of their last six competitive games, drawing two and losing four. There have been some disappointing defeats in Ligue 1, including 5-0 at home to Lyon and 3-1 at Lille.

Saint Etienne have won just one of their last eight Ligue 1 games and have conceded 10 goals in their last three, averaging 3.3 goals per game.

Team news and Bordeaux could be without Jules Kounde who is struggling with injury but Gaetan Laborde could be fit to return to the team.

Saint Etienne travel without central defender Loic Perrin and the Frenchman will be a big miss at the back. Remi Cabella and Lois Diony are rated as doubtful.

Bordeaux have been struggling for goals in recent games but have managed to score in three of their last four home matches.  Saint Etienne on the other hand have a poor recent defensive record and without Perrin at the back, will struggle to keep a clean sheet in this game.

Otherwise, the teams look evenly matched and we could see a draw with both teams scoring.
