Palmeiras to dent Botafogo’s Copa Libertadores hopes
Palmeiras have already clinched a Copa Libertadores spot and have very little to play for in the Brazilian Serie A this season. However, they still have two league games left to play starting with a home game against Botafogo on Monday night.
The home side’s poor recent form cost them the chance of winning the Serie A title, as Corinthians have already clinched the title with games to spare.
Palmeiras have lost three of their last five Serie A matches, including last time out when they suffered a 2-1 defeat at struggling Avai.
The Sao Paulo outfit have been involved in a number of high scoring games of late in the Serie A, with six of their last seven league outings producing over 2.5 goals.
Alberto Valentim’s team have a decent home record of late in the Brazilian top-flight, as they are unbeaten in their last five games. They have also been prolific in those five unbeaten games, scoring two or more goals in each of the outings.
Botafogo are currently seventh place in the Serie A table, having fallen out of the Copa Libertadores spot due to poor form of late. A win would move them back into the top-six though.
The visitors have won just won just one of their last six games in Serie A and suffered three defeats in the process. Last time out in the Brazilian top-flight they drew 0-0 at Sao Paulo.
Botafogo’s recent away form in Serie A has been inconsistent of late. They are unbeaten in four away games, but three of those games have finished in draws.
Their recent away games in Serie a have also been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five games on their travels in the Brazilian top-flight.
Forebet predicts that Palmeiras will dent the visitor’s hopes of getting back into the Copa Libertadores spots by recording a home win.
