On Saturday night, one of the fiercest rivalries in Spanish football renews, as Atletico Madrid host Real Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in La Liga.
Atletico Madrid are currently fourth in La Liga and only behind city rivals Real Madrid due to an inferior goal difference. Diego Simeone’s side heads into this clash unbeaten in 15 outings in the Spanish top-flight.
Last time out, Los Rojiblancos recorded a 1-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna. The result means that Atletico’s last six games in La Liga have produced under 2.5 goals. In fact, eight of Atletico’s last nine games in La Liga have seen under 2.5 goals scored.
Simeone’s team have won eight of their last 11 La Liga games on home soil, suffering just one defeat in the process. However, six of Atletico’s last seven games have produced under 2.5 goals, so they are a team that tends to be involved in a lot of low scoring games.
The same cannot be said about rivals Real Madrid, as five of the visitors last six games in La Liga have produced over 2.5 goals.
Zinedine Zidane’s team are currently third in the table, but trail league leaders Barcelona by eight points. The Spanish champions have been in good form of late in La Liga though, having won five of their last six games in the Spanish top-flight.
However, shock defeats against Real Betis and Girona in the last few months have hampered their bid to retain the Spanish title.
Zidane’s side have been outstanding on their travels in La Liga until last time out when they suffered a shock 2-1 loss at minnows Girona. The defeat ended a winning streak of 12 games on the road in the Spanish top-flight for the visitors.
This game is a case of a strong home side facing a very good away side. Forebet predicts that this game will end in a low scoring draw.
