Palmeiras to add to Sport Recife’s relegation worries

Palmeiras host Sport Recife at the Allianz Parque in the Brazilian Serie A on Thursday night, as the visitors look to climb out of the relegation zone.
Palmeiras are currently third in the Serie A table, but trail leaders Corinthians by 11 points. Corinthians could seal the title before this game kicks off, so Palmeiras will be concentrating on sealing a spot in next seasons Copa Libertadores.
The Verdao’s recent form has hindered their title bid, as a 2-0 win over Flamengo last time out ended a three-game run without a win in the Brazilian top-flight.
Palmeiras are currently on a four-game unbeaten run on home soil in Serie A, which has included two wins and two draws. The home side have also scored at least two goals in their last four home outings in the league.
One negative for Palmeiras is that Sport Recife have won on two of their last three trips to the Allianz Parque in all competitions.
Sport Recife are currently 17th place in the table and three points away from safety. Even a victory in this clash may not move them out of the drop zone, as they have an inferior goal difference to the teams above them.
A run of one win in their last 17 Serie A games have contributed majorly to their current plight. The visitors have suffered four defeats in their last five league games, conceding at least two goals in each of the losses in the process.
Daniel Paulista’s team also have a poor recent away record in Serie A, as they have won just one of their last nine away games while suffering seven defeats on the road.
It seems unlikely that the home side will win the title this season. However, Forebet predicts that they will record a victory in this clash to enhance their chances of clinching a Copa Libertadores spot this season.
