La Liga leaders Barcelona visit Athletic Bilbao’s San Mames on Saturday evening, as the Catalan giants look to continue their strong start to the season.
Athletic’s recent form has been poor and they are currently 11th in the Spanish top-flight table. The men from Bilbao have won just one of their last six league games, losing four games in that recent poor run of form.
Their recent La Liga games have been low scoring, with six of their last nine La Liga games producing under 2.5 goals.
The home side have a decent home record in La Liga, as only Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have won as visitors in Bilbao in the last 22 league games. Bilbao have also won five of their last eight home games in La Liga.
Athletic have a poor recent record against the visitors of late, losing five of the last six meetings with Barcelona in all competitions.
Barcelona have won eight of their first nine La Liga games this season, with Atletico Madrid the only team to take anything from a league game against the Catalan giants. The Atletico game was the only game in Barcelona’s last 16 in La Liga that they have failed to win.
The visitors have been in fantastic form in front of goal in La Liga, scoring two or more goals in 15 of their last 16 games in the Spanish top-flight. Ernesto Valverde’s side have also been in good form away from home.
The draw at Atletico Madrid in their last game on their travels ended a six-game winning run away from home for the Spanish league leaders. The visitors had also scored at least two goals in six of their last seven away games in La Liga.
Athletic are strong at home. However, Barcelona have looked very strong this season and Forebet predicts the league leaders will continue that good form at San Mames.
