Citizens to ease to victory against Ukrainian giants
On Tuesday night, Manchester City host Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League group stages, as Pep Guardiola’s side look to continue a fine run of form in recent weeks.
Manchester City have been highly prolific in front of goal of late. Last time out the Citizens hammered Crystal Palace 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League. Incredibly, City have actually scored four or more goals in four of their last five games in all competitions.
One of those games was a 4-0 victory at Feyenoord in the first game of this seasons group stages. Not only have Guardiola’s side been impressive going forward in that five-game run, but they have also kept clean sheets in four of those five outings too.
The home side have a bit of a mixed record in the Champions League of late. However, they have lost just one of their last six games in this competition, so are relatively difficult to beat in Europe.
City are also strong on home soil in the Champions League. The Citizens are currently ten games unbeaten on home soil, recording seven victories in the process.
Like their opponents, Shakhtar are top of their domestic league after making a strong start to their campaign. The visitors also started their Champions League campaign with a win, beating Napoli 2-1 in Kharkiv.
However, Shakhtar have a poor recent record in the Champions League, winning just three of their last ten outings in Europe’s elite competition. The Ukrainian side’s away record in the competition is even worse, as they have won just one of their last eight games on their travels, suffering five defeats in the process.
The visitors have also failed to score in their last four away games on their travels in the Champions League.
Forebet predicts that Manchester City’s recent good run of form will continue in this clash and the Citizens will record a comfortable win.
