World champions Germany have enjoyed a strong qualification campaign for World Cup 2018. Joachim Low’s side have a hundred per cent record in qualifying. On Monday night, Die Mannschaft will hope to make it eight wins out of eight when they host Norway in Stuttgart.
Last time out, Germany recorded a rather unconvincing 2-1 win in the Czech Republic to stretch their winning run in World Cup qualifiers to 13 games. Low’s side produced an unconvincing display, but a late winner from Bayern Munich centre-back Mats Hummels was enough to seal maximum points.
The win kept the home side five points clear of second place Northern Ireland, with just three qualifiers remaining. The world champions have an incredible record in World Cup qualifying, as their last defeat in qualifying was back in 2001, which was that now infamous 5-1 home defeat against England.
Since then, Die Mannschaft have been unstoppable in qualifying. The fact that Germany have won 16 of their last 17 World Cup qualifiers just illustrates their strength in qualifying for the big event.
Germany also have a strong record against Norway. The home side have beaten the Scandinavian visitors in eight of the last nine games in all competitions. The visitors have beaten Germany just once in the last 12 competitive meetings.
Norway have once again struggled in World Cup qualifying, picking up just seven points from as many games in Group C. Their only wins in the group have come against minnows San Marino and Azerbaijan.
The win against Azerbaijan came in their last outing, as Lars Lagerback’s team recorded a 2-0 win on home soil. Germany are quite simply in a different league and it hard to see the visitors getting any joy from this game.
Unsurprisingly, Forebet predicts that the world champions will come out on top and move another step closer to defending their title in Russia.
