Corinthians to return to winning ways at Chapecoense
On Wednesday night, Serie A leaders Corinthians travel to Chapecoense looking to return to winning ways after a surprise defeat last time out in the Brazilian top-flight.
Corinthians have without a doubt been the standout team in the Brazilian top-flight this season. However, last time out the league leaders suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Vitoria. It was the first time the Sao Paulo outfit have suffered defeat in the league this season.
Despite defeat against Vitoria, the visitors are still seven points clear of second-place Gremio, with a game in-hand. Corinthians have also still won three of their last five games in Serie A.
Corinthians are unbeaten in eight games on their travels in Serie A, winning six of their last eight games. Carille’s team have also kept clean sheets in their last six away games in the league and conceded just once in those eight unbeaten games.
The home side are experiencing a poor campaign. They currently sit 15th place in the Serie A table, just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Vinicius Eutropio’s side recorded a creditable 2-0 win at Palmeiras in their last Serie A game. The win ended a three-game winless run in the Brazilian top-flight.
Their recent home record is not great, as they have won just one of their last six games on home soil in Serie A. Those recent six home games have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of them.
Chapecoense have failed to beat the visitors in the last seven meetings in all competitions, suffering four defeats in the process. Corinthians have won on their last three visits to the Arena Conda, too.
