Italian giants AC Milan kick off their Europa League campaign at the third qualifying stage of the competition on Thursday, as they visit Romania to face CS U Craiova.
The home side are in unchartered waters in the Europa League, as they have never appeared in the competition in their history. They could not have wished for more of a baptism of fire, as a heavily strengthened AC Milan head to the Stadionul Municipal.
The home side have started their domestic league campaign by picking up four points from their first two games. However, those games in the Romanian top-flight followed successive defeats in friendly games against UFA and Dynamo Kiev.
The Romanian side does not have a great home record either, as they have won just one of their last ten games on home soil in all competitions.
AC Milan have been one of the biggest spenders in the European transfer market this summer, with the arrival of Leonardo Bonucci, Franck Kessie and Andre Silva amongst others.
The clubs new Chinese owners are highly ambitious and the Italians will be one of the favourites to win this competition. However, first, the Italian side needs to get past this potentially tricky tie.
The visitors have a decent recent record in this competition, as they are currently unbeaten in nine games in the Europa League, having also lost just three of their 20 games in the competition.
Milan have drawn their last four games in the competition, with over 2.5 goals scored in three of those four draws. The Rossoneri are also unbeaten in their last four away games in Europe’s secondary competition. The visitors head into this clash on the back of 4-0 wins over Lugano and Bayern Munich.
Forebet predicts that AC Milan will emerge from this game with a healthy lead to take into the second leg.
