On Thursday night, Premier League Everton kick-off their Europa League campaign by hosting Slovakian side MFK Ruzomberok in the third qualifying round of Europe’s secondary competition.
The Toffees are back in Europe after a two-year break and will be confident of progression to the group stages after a major recruitment drive this summer.
Ronald Koeman’s side have enjoyed a fruitful pre-season so far, winning two and drawing one of their games so far. The Merseysiders have high expectations for their new Premier League campaign and they will be looking to enjoy a good run in this competition.
This tie is a potential banana skin for Koeman’s side. However, the Toffees have a decent recent record in the Europa League. They have won five of their last seven games in the Europa League, although the Toffees did suffer a 5-2 defeat against Dynamo Kiev in their last European outing.
Everton’s home record in this competition is strong, as the home side have won five of their last six European games on home soil, scoring at least two goals in all five of their victories.
It is fair to say that the Merseysiders are heavy favourites to win this clash and progress to the group stages of the competition.
MFK Ruzomberok made it through to the third qualifying round courtesy of a surprise 2-1 aggregate win over Norwegian side Brann. The visitors lost the first leg 1-0 at home but won the return leg to progress to this meeting.
The visitor’s record in the Europa League is a mixed one, though, having won two and lost three of their last six games in Europe. Their away record in the competition is not great, as the win in Norway was their only away win in five games on their travels in the Europa League.
Forebet predicts that Everton will record a comfortable victory and take a big step into the next round of the competition.
