Colorado Rapids host LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference. The two sides will meet in the early hours of Thursday, with kick-off scheduled for 2AM BST.

Both sides started the 2017 season poorly. Colorado won just two of their opening 12 matches in the campaign. However, Pablo Mastroeni’s side have since put together a run of three consecutive victories.

Regardless of their recent spell of good form, Colorado still sit in 10th place in the division, with 16 points from their first 14 matches. However, a victory against LA Galaxy this week could see them climb as high as seventh. They would go level with Curt Onalfo’s side should they claim a victory at the Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Despite losing five of their opening seven matches, LA Galaxy are unbeaten in their last seven since. However, they go into the game having failed to win in their last two matches. They followed up a 0-0 bore draw against D.C. United with a 2-2 draw against Houston Dynamo, which was better, but still far from perfect.

Although, Romain Alessandrini managed to impress one again with a goal and an assist. The Frenchman, who joined the club from Marseille in March, has now scored 7 and assisted 7 in just 14 MLS fixtures. Some of the league’s best sides have struggled to deal with him, so he is bound to cause Colorado problems on Thursday.

Having won just five games so far, Onalfo won’t want his side to go too long without claiming another three points. Advantage is usually in the home side’s favour. However, LA Galaxy will be confident that they can come away with a victory on the road, given that four of their five victories so far this season have come in away matches.

That is in stark contrast to Colorado Rapids, who have yet to claim a single point on the road so far. However, they have performed much better at home, dropping just eight points from a possible 24.

The club have relied on impact sub Alan Gordon to pick up points in recent weeks. The veteran striker netted against both Columbus Crew and Portland Timbers in Colorado’s last two matches to hand them 2-1 victories on both occasions. Gordon is likely to start on the bench once again, but is likely to get his chance to make it three goals in three games in the later stages of the match.

Despite a number of lacklustre performances, both LA Galaxy and Colorado have been the champions of late goals so far in this campaign, which could make for interesting viewing as the game draws to a close.
