Royals to make the Championship play-off final
Reading and Fulham go head-to-head at Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night in the Championship semi-final second leg. The first game at Craven Cottage finished 1-1 and this clash looks set to be a close one.
Reading have enjoyed a superb first season under former Manchester United centre-back Jaap Stam. The Dutchman guided the Royals to a third place finish this season and the team from Berkshire finished the Championship campaign in good form.
In fact, the home side recorded seven wins in their last nine games in the second tier to book their play-off spot. A 1-1 draw in the first leg at Craven Cottage was a decent result for Stam and his team.
Reading’s home form has also been very good of late, as the Royals are unbeaten in their last ten games on home soil, recording eight victories while winning their last four home games in the league.
Stam’s team also defeated Fulham at the Madejski Stadium in the league but suffered a 5-0 defeat at Craven Cottage in the reverse fixture.
Fulham have also prospered under a new boss this season in the shape of former Watford chief Slavia Jokanovic. The Serbian boss led Watford to promotion to the top-flight the season before last but left the Hornets over a contract dispute.
However, it looks like the former Chelsea midfielder is attempting to repeat the trick with the Cottagers this time around. Jokanovic’s side finished the season with a six-match unbeaten run that saw his team record five victories and a draw.
The Cottagers away form is also decent, as they recorded six wins in their last eight Championship games on their travels. The visitors have also won their last three away games while scoring two or more goals in the process.
This tie could really go either way. However, home advantage could prove the key to Reading winning this tie and booking a place in the play-off final.
