Lyon host Ajax at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday night in the Europa League semi-final second leg, as the home side try to recover a 4-1 defeat in the first leg of the tie.
The home side were overpowered in the first leg of the tie, despite being slight favourites to progress to the final. Bruno Genesio’s side now have an uphill struggle task to make it to the competition's final in Stockholm.
The French side have been in decent form in the Europa League, though, winning five of their last seven games in the competition. Genesio’s team also have a very good home record in Europe’s secondary competition, winning eight of their last ten games on home soil.
OL have also been prolific on home soil in the Europa League, scoring two or more goals in five of their last seven home games. The home side’s effectiveness in front of goal has contributed to there being over 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven home games in the Europa League.
Lyon have failed to beat Ajax in the last five meetings between the two teams, so the French side will have to end that run in this clash to make the final.
The visitors needed to establish a decent lead in the first leg, as their recent away record in the Europa League is poor. The Dutch giants have won just two of their last 11 games on their travels in this competition.
Peter Bosz’s team have also been involved in a number of high-scoring games of late on their travels in European competition, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven European outings.
Forebet predicts that Lyon will record a narrow victory in this clash, but will not do enough to overturn the first leg deficit.
