Arsenal have somehow kept themselves in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season. The Gunners hopes are still slim and on Wednesday night they face a trip to inconsistent Southampton.

Anything but a win is likely to see the Gunners miss out on the Champions League places for the first time in 20 years. The home side have been wildly inconsistent this season, but could still finish Wednesday night as high as eighth place in the Premier League table with a win.

The Saints have not won in their last four games, although their last two games have finished goalless against Hull City and last time out at Liverpool. The Saints home record is not the greatest of late either, as the team from the south coast have won just two of their last eight home games in the Premier League.

The Saints have also had problems finding the net on home soil, failing to score in four of their last six games in all competitions at St Marys. However, Arsenal have failed to win on their last five visits to St Marys in all competitions.

Arsenal’s hopes of finishing in the Champions League are still alive, as the Gunners are sixth place in the table, but trail Manchester City, who occupy fourth by six points, having played one game more than the Gunners.

The team from north London will be heading to the south coast in confident mood having won 2-0 at home against Manchester United last time out. However, their recent away record is poor, having lost five of their last six away games in the Premier League.

Southampton may not be in great form, but do have the quality to cause Arsenal problems. The Gunners are fragile and the Saints can definitely dent the visitors Champions League hopes in this one.
