This season’s Bundesliga has been brilliantly open and the fight for survival in the German top-flight is now very tight. A game that could prove pivotal in that Bundesliga relegation battle takes place at Volksparkstadion on Sunday afternoon, as Hamburger host Mainz.

The home side currently occupy the relegation play-off spot. However, only goal separates Markus Gisdol’s side, 15th place Wolfsburg and of course the visitors. HSV’s goal difference is far inferior to their two rivals, so they are badly in need of a victory in this clash.

Their form of late has been poor, though, as the men from Hamburg have been on a terrible run of form of late, losing four of their last five games in the German top-flight.

Hamburger’s home record has been a major plus of late in the Bundesliga, though. They have lost just one of their last ten home games in the league and have recorded wins in four of their last five games on home soil in the German top-flight.

Mainz’s form has also been poor of late, as six defeats in their last eight Bundesliga outings has seen them dragged from midtable into the relegation fight. One win in their last nine games in the German top-flight illustrates their plight perfectly.

The visitor’s away form is also poor, as they have won just one of their last 12 Bundesliga games on their travels, suffering nine defeats in the process.

However, there is a slight positive for Mainz in their visit to Hamburg, in the fact that they have won on just two of their last three visits to the Volksparkstadion.

This game is a massive one in terms of who will be in that relegation play-off spot by the end of the weekend. Forebet predicts that HSV will record a vital victory and leapfrog their opponents in the Bundesliga table.
