Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona face a stern test of their title credentials when they host Villarreal at the Nou Camp on Saturday evening.

Barcelona will kick-off this clash top of La Liga courtesy of a superior record in their head-to-head clashes with second-place Real Madrid. A win would put pressure on Los Blancos for their night kick-off, although the men from Madrid have a comfortable looking home game against struggling Granada.

Luis Enrique’s side head into this clash in good form, having won seven of their last eight games in La Liga. The Blaugrana’s home record is even more impressive in La Liga, as they have recorded ten straight wins on home soil. Enrique’s side have also scored two or more goals in all ten victories, while also scoring in their last 11 La Liga games on home soil.

Barcelona are unbeaten in 17 meetings with Villarreal and have recorded 12 victories in the process against the Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal heads into this game fifth in La Liga. Fran Escriba’s side still have an outside chance of finishing in the Champions League spots, but more their more realistic goal is now securing a Europa League spot via a top six finish.

The visitors have hit form of late, winning their last three games in La Liga. Escriba’s side have a decent away record of late, as they have lost just twice in their last 11 games on their travels in the Spanish top-flight.

A feature of Villarreal’s recent away games in La Liga is their defensive record, as Escriba’s team have kept clean sheets in seven of their last 11 games on their travels in the league. The visitors also have the second best defensive record in La Liga, so the home side may have to be patient to make a breakthrough in this clash.

Forebet predicts a comfortable Barcelona victory. However, Villarreal should certainly present some sort of challenge for the reigning Spanish champions.
