Atletico to end Foxes fairytale
On Tuesday night Leicester City host Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final second leg at the King Power Stadium.
The Spanish side recorded a 1-0 victory in the first leg at the Vicente Calderon in a tight game. With Atletico’s renowned defensive record the result was not a surprise. That defensive record will be put to the test at the King Power.
The reigning English champions have managed to score two or more goals in eight of their last nine competitive games. The only game they have not managed to net twice in that run was the first leg of this tie in Madrid.
The Foxes also have a very strong home record in the Champions League, having won all four of their home games in Europe’s elite competition. The home side have also conceded just once in those four home games in the competition.
Despite that good record in Europe’s elite competition the Foxes recent form has been poor. The reigning English champions have lost two and drew one of their last three competitive games. The honeymoon is well and truly over for interim boss Craig Shakespeare.
Atletico Madrid are in good form heading into this clash, winning four of their last five games in all competitions and remaining unbeaten. Diego Simeone’s team have also conceded just one goal in those five unbeaten outings.
Atletico’s recent away record in the Champions League is mixed, with three wins, three defeats and one draw from their last seven away games in normal time. However, their recent away record is decent with three victories in their last four games in the Champions League.
Atletico Madrid are experienced European campaigners and Leicester’s European run has been a fairytale. However, Forebet predicts that the Foxes campaign will be ended by an Atletico victory.
