Ajax to overcome Schalke in Europa League clash
On Thursday night Ajax and Schalke go head-to-head at the Amsterdam ArenA in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.
The home side have been in decent form of late, having won five of their last six outings in all competitions, including beating Danish side Kobenhavn 2-0 in the last round of this competition.
Currently sitting second in the Eredivisie Peter Bosz side have enjoyed a stellar campaign so far this season. The Dutch side have a decent record in the Europa League, suffering just one defeat in their last 13 outings in Europe’s secondary competition.
Their games in the Europa League have been low-scoring of late, though, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six outings. Bosz’s side also have a good home record in the Europa League, having gone 11 games unbeaten at the Amsterdam ArenA, recording eight wins in the process.
Ajax have a very good home record against German teams in European competition, too, as the team from the Dutch capital have won 13 of their last 15 games against teams from Germany.
Schalke arrive in the Netherlands in mixed form, as Markus Weinzierl’s side have won just three of their last 12 games in all competitions. In the last round, the German side saw off Greek side PAOK 4-1 on aggregate.
The visitors do have a good away record in the Europa League of late, as they have suffered just one defeat in their last ten outings on their travels. However, they have never won in Holland in five attempts and suffered four defeats in the process.
Schalke’s away games in the Europa League have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last nine games on their travels.
Forebet predicts that Ajax will record a very narrow win in this clash and head to Germany for the second leg with a slight advantage.
