England to cruise past Lithuania

England have found qualifying for major international championships in recent years a piece of cake. The Three Lions tend to cruise through their group campaigns, only to struggle when they face decent opposition at the main events.
The same scenario has occurred for arguably more than a decade with England. In qualifying for the World Cup the Three Lions were handed a group that could only be described as comfortable. The likes of Slovakia, Slovenia, Scotland, Lithuania and Malta were paired with Gareth Southgate’s team.
On Sunday Southgate’s men host Lithuania in their fifth qualifying game of the group. The Wembley encounter is expected to bring nothing less than a comfortable England victory.
The numbers from World Cup qualifying campaigns of the past suggest that the home side are likely to record another comfortable win on home soil. England have lost just once in their last 26 World Cup qualifiers.
The Three Lions home record is also strong having gone on a run of 20 games unbeaten on home soil in qualifying and winning their last seven home qualifiers. To make matters worse for Lithuania, the home side have won both the meeting between the two teams, recording an aggregate of 7-0 in the two games.
England have started their qualification campaign with three wins and a draw. Lithuania have not made a mixed start to their campaign so far, winning one, drawing two and losing one of their first four games.
However, an unlikely victory in this game would put the visitor’s just two points behind their hosts, who currently occupy top spot in the group. However, an away win does indeed look unlikely, as Lithuania have failed to win any of their last 14 away games on the international stage.
Forebet predicts another comfortable day at the office for England and another victory to add to those impressive World Cup qualifying stats.
