Argentina to get the better of Chile in World Cup qualifier

With the South American World Cup qualifying section heating up, Argentina host Chile in Buenos Aires in a massive clash on Thursday night.

Argentina have not been in great form of late and boss Edgardo Bauza has experienced mixed fortunes so far in the job after replacing Gerardo Martino at the helm. Despite an inconsistent qualification campaign so far, the home side are still fifth in the group and just one point and place behind the visitors, as both look to seal their places at World 2018 in Russia.

Bauza’s side head into this clash on the back of just one win from their last five qualifiers. However, that win was in their last qualifier in the shape of a 3-0 home win over Colombia. Argentina have a decent home record in qualifiers, having won three of their last four home qualifiers and conceding just once in the process.

Argentina also have a strong record against Chile, having won nine of the last 16 encounters with the Copa America champions. In fact, Chile have won just three of those aforementioned 16 clashes.

Chile head into this clash just ahead of their opponents in the group table. Having made a poor start to their qualifying campaign, things have been looking up of late for Juan Antonio Pizzi’s side, as they have recorded victories in three of their last five outings in qualifiers.

Their away record in qualifiers does not bode well for an away victory, though, as they have suffered defeat in three of their last five outings on their travels in qualifying. The visitors did record a penalty kick victory over the home side in last year’s Copa America, but this clash looks set to be a difficult one for Pizzi’s side.

Forebet predicts that Argentina will get the better of their neighbours and in the process leapfrog the South American champions in the group table.
