Nice to move joint-top of Ligue One with Caen win

Nice have been of the biggest surprise packages of any of Europe’s top leagues this season. Lucien Favre’s team are currently third in Ligue One and could move level on points with league leaders Monaco as they host midtable Caen.

The Eaglets would still be behind Leonardo Jardim’s team on goal difference even with a victory, though. However, they would temporarily at least leapfrog champions PSG, who play on Sunday night at struggling Lorient.

Nice’s form has been decent of late, as they have suffered just one defeat in their last 16 Ligue One games. That one defeat came at league leaders Monaco, so it’s fair to say that Favre’s team have been hard to beat in Ligue One this season.

The home side’s campaign has been built on a strong home record at the Allianz Riviera, where they have won 16 of their last 19 games in the French top-flight. The last team to beat Nice on home soil in a league game was Bastia in February 2016.

Another key to Nice’s strong campaign has been their defensive record in Ligue One this season. Only champions PSG have conceded less than Nice’s tally of 21 goals this season.

Caen head into this clash fourth in Ligue One, but just four clear of the relegation zone. The visitors have been inconsistent of late, but have suffered four defeats in their last six league outings, which has seen them dragged towards the drop zone.

Caen have won just two of their last 14 away games in the French top-flight. However, both of those wins have come in their last three games on their travels in the league.

Forebet predicts that Nice will record a win in this clash and continue their challenge for the French top-flight title this season.
