Dortmund to turnaround Benfica tie
Things have not quite gone to plan for Dortmund and boss Thomas Tuchel this season in the German top-flight. The perennial challengers to German behemoths Bayern Munich are fourth in the Bundesliga.
However, BVB’s Champions League campaign has been a highlight of the campaign, as they topped a group containing European champions Real Madrid. A record of four wins and two draws in the group stages was pretty impressive.
That unbeaten run in Europe this season came to an end in the competition’s last-16 first leg, as Portuguese giants Benfica defeated Tuchel’s team 1-0 at the Estadio Da Luz. The German side have been in formidable form since that defeat, recording three consecutive wins and scoring 12 goals in the process.
Tuchel’s side have been in decent form on home soil in the Champions League, losing just one of their last eight games, recording five wins in the process.
The visitors are currently in the race for the Portuguese title and going well under boss Rui Vitoria. Like Dortmund, Benfica have won all their matches since the first leg. In fact, the Eagles have won their seven games in all competitions.
Their record in away games against German teams is awful, as the club from the Portuguese capital have won on just two of their 22 visits to Germany in European competition. Vitoria’s sides form on their travels has not been formidable, with four of their five defeats this season coming on the road.
Dortmund have yet to lose on home soil this season in all competitions, so it seems the visitors have a difficult task on their hands recording a victory. The Portuguese side know that they just need to avoid defeat to go through to the last-eight of the competition.
Forebet predicts that Dortmund will come out on top in this clash and progress into the last eight of Europe’s elite competition.
