Lorient will host Lens in the Coupe de France round of 16 on Thursday. Les Merlus are looking to regain their form, while Lorient are aiming to stop a three-game winless streak.

Big Ligue 1 clubs have been drawn against each other in the round of 16 and some surprises could occur.

Lens were in the Ligue 1 title fight but they failed to win their last three games, falling eight points behind first-place Paris Saint-Germain. The Blood and Gold reached the round of 16 thanks to a win over Linas Montlhery 2-0 and a 3-1 victory over Ligue 1’s Brest.

Lorient qualified for the round of 16 with a 6-0 victory over lower league team Chataignerale and a win over Ligue 2’s Bastia on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Lens go into the game with a fantastic home record of 10 wins, zero draws, and one defeat. The Blood and Gold have excelled at home but they have struggled on the road.

Away from home, Lens have a record of five wins, seven draws, and one defeat with 17 goals scored and nine conceded.

Lorient are playing well at home with five wins, three draws, and three defeats. Les Merlus are +2 in goals at home with 16 for and 14 against.

Manager Regis Le Bris has three players on the injury list ahead of the visit from Lens. Midfielders Theo Le Bris and Laurent Abergel are both ruled out with leg injuries. Defender Julien Laporte is ruled out with a knee injury until April.

Lens’ manager Franck Haise has a laundry list of injured players heading into the cup match. Midfielder Claude Maurice is out until March. Forward Wesley Said has a knee injury and won’t play either.

Defenders Massadio Haidara and Steven Fortes are both ruled out with leg injuries. Forwards Adam Buksa and Jimmy Cabot are ruled out with the former suffering an ankle injury and the latter an ACL injury. Goalkeeper Wuilker Farinez is ruled out with an ACL injury as well.

Thursday's round of 16 Coupe de France game should be close with neither side getting an upper hand in regulation. Lens are struggling for form, and Lorient are too.

Seven of Lens’ 13 games in all competitions away from home ended as draws. Lorient have drawn three of 11 games at home in all competitions.

Thursday’s cup game should finish nil-nil at the end of 90 minutes with both teams needing extra time or penalties to produce a winner.
