In-form Man Utd ready to pile more pressure on struggling Leeds

Manchester United welcome Leeds United to Old Trafford on Wednesday night, with 24 points between the old rivals in the Premier League table.

Leeds find themselves just outside the drop zone on goal difference, having suffered a 1-0 defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

At the opposite end of the standings, Man Utd sit third – three points behind second-placed Manchester City and three points inside the top four.

The Red Devils claimed a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace last time out, with Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford grabbing the goals for the hosts.

Erik ten Hag’s side have now won six of their last eight Premier League matches and have only lost two of their previous 14.

It is also worth noting that Man Utd are enjoying a four-game winning streak in all competitions, with a solitary defeat coming in their previous 15 encounters.

Given that United are enjoying a 15-match unbeaten run at Old Trafford, ten Hag’s men will be confident of securing another positive result on home soil.

By contrast, Leeds have failed to win any of their past seven Premier League outings – recording three draws and four losses in the process.

When you look at the bigger picture, Jesse Marsch’s side have managed to win just two of their previous 17 league games.

Only four sides have conceded more Premier League goals than Leeds’ 34 this season, meaning they are conceding at a rate of 1.7 goals per game in the league.

Worse still, Leeds have failed to score in each of their last two Premier League outings – highlighting their struggles at both ends of the pitch.

Head-to-head: Leeds have failed to beat Man Utd since gaining promotion in 2020, registering one draw and three losses.

After thrashing Leeds 6-2 in 2020, United claimed two high-scoring victories in this fixture last term – winning 5-1 at Old Trafford and 4-2 at Elland Road.

Team news: Man Utd midfielder Casemiro is suspended following his red card last time out, while Donny van de Beek, Christian Eriksen and Anthony Martial are injured.

Leeds are currently without the injured trio of Rodrigo, Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw, although Robin Koch is ready to return from suspension.

When you couple the contrasting form of these two sides with United’s impressive record against Leeds, all the signs point towards a home victory on Wednesday.

Forebet predicts that Manchester United will score over 1.5 goals on their way to dispatching Leeds United, heaping more misery of Marsch and his players.
