Newcastle to Remain in 3rd With Another Win Against West Ham
Newcastle United vs West Ham - 04/02/2023
2837
Two sides in completely contrasting areas of the Premier League table will meet this weekend as Newcastle United play hosts to West Ham United at St. James’ Park with the Magpies into third after a drop in league form from Manchester United.
Newcastle are third in the table after defeating Fulham and drawing with Crystal Palace in the past two games. Alex Isak stole the headlines for Newcastle in the win over Fulham with an 89th-minute winner.
These lack of goals at either end mean just 33 scored for them this season from 20 games but with a stunning 11 goals let in - no side has a better defensive record in the league.
Newcastle also don't have their game in hand anymore, meaning they remain on 39 points and ahead of United in fourth by goals difference. What's more, they have still lost only one game this season and drawn nine with 10 wins.
Eddie Howe's men have battled in the League Cup only within the past 10 days after their exit from the FA Cup against League One's Sheffield Wednesday.
A 1-0 win at St Mary's gave them the edge in the semi-final battle with the Saints, but it was one of their own who secured a spot at Wembley in the end.
For all the wealth and new signings Newcastle have made, it was Sean Longstaff - a local player who has come through the youth system - who stole the show with two goals inside the first 21 minutes of the game.
Che Adams did pull one back for Southampton, but Howe's men won the tie 3-1 and will now meet Man United in the final at the end of the month.
The only major concern for Newcastle after this cup run is how Bruno Guimaraes is now suspended thanks to a straight red card.
He will miss this game, but he will also be able to play in the League Cup final due to suspensions running over into the next game across the domestic competitions.
West Ham head into this one off the back of a revitalisation across the board. The Hammers edged past Derby County in the FA Cup fourth round last time out with a 2-0 win at Pride Park. Prior to this, West Ham defeated Everton 2-0 in what was their best win of the season.
Forebet predicts a win for Newcastle and for the game to see under 2.5 goals.
