Dortmund and Freiburg braced for pivotal top-five clash

Borussia Dortmund and SC Freiburg are locked on 34 points in the Bundesliga table ahead of their clash at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday afternoon.

Fourth-placed Dortmund find themselves above fifth-placed Freiburg on goal difference, with third-placed RB Leipzig sitting just one point ahead.

Given that first-placed Bayern Munich sit just three points clear of Dortmund and Freiburg, both sides will be desperate to claim all three points on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund have won all three of their Bundesliga games since returning from the winter break, meaning they have now won six of their previous eight league outings.

After beating Augsburg 4-3, Dortmund claimed a 2-1 victory over Mainz before beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 last weekend.

When you look at the bigger picture, BVB have won 11 of their 18 Bundesliga matches this season – registering one draw and six losses along the way.

Since Dortmund have scored at least one goal in each of their past 25 home league games, the hosts shouldn’t struggle to find the back of the net on Saturday.

As for Freiburg, they have struggled for consistency since returning from the winter break – recording one win, one draw and one loss in the league.

After returning to action with a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Wolfsburg, Freiburg drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt before beating Augsburg 3-1 last time out.

It is worth remembering, however, that Freiburg secured four victories in five Bundesliga matches in the lead-up to the World Cup.

Given that Freiburg have only lost three of their previous 20 games across all competitions, they won’t go down without a fight at Signal Iduna Park.

Head-to-head: Dortmund have won four of their last six league meetings with Freiburg, scoring over 2.5 goals on three occasions.

Remarkably, Freiburg have only managed to win four of their previous 33 matches against Dortmund – suffering 23 defeats in the process.

Team news: Dortmund will be without the injured trio of Thomas Meunier, Abdoulaye Kamara and Mateu Morey on Saturday.

By contrast, Freiburg have a fully-fit squad at the moment – meaning head coach Christian Streich can field a full-strength side this weekend.

Given Dortmund’s recent record against Freiburg, the hosts look set to secure a high-scoring victory on Saturday.

Forebet predicts that Borussia Dortmund will score over 2.5 goals on their way to dispatching SC Freiburg, who are also expected to find the net.
