Following Real Madrid’s draw with Real Sociedad at the weekend, Barcelona have the chance to move eight points clear at the summit of the La Liga table when they visit Real Betis on Wednesday night.
As it stands, Barca find themselves five points above their bitter rivals, with third-placed Sociedad sitting eight points behind Xavi’s men.
Meanwhile, Real Betis occupy sixth place, although they trail Barcelona by 16 points after enduring an inconsistent first half of the season.
Betis have registered nine wins, four draws and five losses in La Liga this term, scoring 20 goals while conceding 14.
Although the Andalusians boast one of the best defensive records in the division, they are also among the league’s lowest scorers.
It is worth noting that Betis ended a three-game winless run with a 1-0 victory over Getafe at the weekend, courtesy of an 86th-minute penalty from Borja Iglesias.
Given that 10 of Betis’ 18 La Liga games this season have produced under 2.5 goals, the hosts are not expected to dish up a high-scoring performance on Wednesday.
As for Barcelona, they head into Wednesday’s clash on a 13-game unbeaten streak across all competitions – winning each of their previous eight encounters.
In Liga, the Catalans have only lost one of their 18 matches this term – sealing 15 wins and two draws in the process.
It is also worth noting that Barca have conceded a measly six league goals this season, keeping a whopping 14 clean sheets along the way.
Since Barcelona have won each of their past three La Liga matches 1-0, we aren’t likely to see many goals on Wednesday.
Head-to-head: Earlier this month, Real Betis and Barcelona played out a 2-2 draw in the Spanish Super Cup before Xavi’s side won 4-2 on penalties.
That means Barca are unbeaten in each of their last eight meetings with Betis, securing seven straight La Liga wins in that time.
Team news: Real Betis look set to be without the injured Juan Cruz on Wednesday as the midfielder continues to recover from a hamstring problem.
On the flip side, Barcelona will travel to Betis without Ousmane Dembele, who recently picked up a muscle injury.
Although Betis are in the hunt for Champions League football, Barcelona are in a league of their own right now.
For that reason, Forebet predicts that Barcelona will claim all three points on Wednesday – scoring over 1.5 goals on their way to victory.
