Championship club Preston North End welcome Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur to Deepdale on Saturday, with the fourth round of the FA Cup in full swing.
The Lilywhites find themselves eleventh in the second tier – two points outside the playoff places – while Spurs sit three points shy of the Premier League’s top four in fifth place.
Preston last won the FA Cup all the way back in 1938, while the most recent of Tottenham’s eight triumphs came in 1991. Can either side go all the way this year?
Ryan Lowe’s men booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory over Huddersfield Town earlier this month.
Preston made a slow start to their Championship campaign, drawing seven of their opening 11 league outings this term.
Funnily enough, they have not drawn any of their previous 17 Championship matches – registering nine wins and eight losses during that period.
Having lost five of their last eight league encounters, the Lilywhites will almost certainly struggle to deal with a top-five Premier League team this weekend.
As for Tottenham, they punched their ticket to the fourth round with a 1-0 win against Portsmouth – with Harry Kane scoring the only goal of the game.
Last time out, Kane netted the winner against Fulham in the Premier League – taking his tally for the season to 18 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.
It’s fair to say that Tottenham have endured something of an inconsistent campaign up to now, recording 11 wins, three draws and seven losses in the league.
That said, they will be confident of dispatching a mid-table Championship side having won more than 50% of their top-flight games this term.
Head-to-head: When these two teams last met back in 2009, Tottenham thrashed Preston 5-1 at Deepdale in the League Cup.
Preston’s last victory over Spurs came all the way back in 1966, with Tottenham claiming four wins and two draws against the Lilywhites since then.
Team news: Preston manager Ryan Lowe is expected to name a full-strength starting XI in order to compete with Tottenham.
Spurs boss Antonio Conte could rest a number of his key players, while Lucas Moura will miss Saturday’s clash due to injury.
Given the evident gulf between these two clubs, Tottenham are expected to cruise past Preston without any real problems.
Forebet predicts that Tottenham will claim a high-scoring win against Preston, with the Premier League side expected to net over 3.5 goals on their way to victory.
