Southampton and Tottenham go head-to-head on Wednesday night at St Marys with the visitors desperate for a win to keep in touch with the teams above them.

Southampton’s season has been a story of inconsistency under French boss Claude Puel. The team from the south coast are eighth in the table despite their inconsistent performances, though. A 3-1 win at south coast rivals Bournemouth last time out certainly lifted spirits.

The win was especially well received due to striker Jay Rodriguez grabbing a brace in the clash. The former Burnley man has struggled with injuries for the past few seasons. The double means he now has three goals for the campaign.

The Saints may have been inconsistent this season, but their recent home form has been decent. The south coast side have lost just one of their last 18 games at St Marys in all competitions, so Tottenham face a big challenge to emerge from this game with three points.

The challenge is especially big as Spurs have lost their last three away games in all competitions. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have been hard to beat on their travels in the Premier League, suffering just four defeats in their last 26 games in the top-flight. A record of just one away win in their last nine games in all competitions is not great, though.

The side from north London could cut the gap to fourth-place rivals Arsenal to just one point with a rare away win in this clash. One good omen for the visitors is the fact they have beaten Tottenham in six of the last meetings of the two sides.

Forebet predicts that this game will finish in a draw, which will do little to help the visitor’s ambitions of finishing in the top-four this season.
