Goals in short supply between Serbia and Sweden

All of the major European leagues have been put on hold this week as the UEFA Nations League action returns with Serbia playing host to Sweden in this League B/Group 4 clash at the Stadion Rajko Mitić in Belgrade with the hosts looking to draw level on points with group leaders, Norway, while Sweden will also be looking to reduce the current four-point gap between themselves and their hosts.
Serbia have produced a fairly solid sequence of results in recent times overall.
The hosts have lost just two of their previous 13 matches, which came in the form of losses against Denmark and Norway.
But the hosts have also captured a total of nine wins in the process as well.
On the Nations League front, Serbia have won two of their last three matches with victories collected against Slovenia 4-1 at home and a 1-0 win away from home at Saturday’s upcoming opponents, Sweden.
But the wider picture suggests Serbia are by no means a guaranteed three points here.
The hosts have won just three of their last 10 Nations League games and goals may also be in short supply as five of these 10 games have also resulted in under 2.5 goals.
Sweden trail their 2nd placed hosts, Serbia, by a four-point margin having managed to record just the single win in Group 4 to date which came in the shape of a 2-0 win away at Slovenia but the Swedes have since stumbled to three defeats on the trot in the group stage.
Losses incurred against Norway (home and away) and Serbia have left the visitors just one point above the bottom nation in Group 4, Slovenia, so they too will be keen to secure a result of some sort on Saturday evening as they look to avoid relegation down to League C for the next campaign.
Sweden have found life difficult in the Nations League too as the visitors have won just two of their last 10 matches in this format, gaining wins against Croatia and Slovenia, whilst also being handed a total of eight defeats as well.
So Sweden are expected to batten down the hatches when they make their way to the Stadion Rajko Mitić for this upcoming encounter.
A tightly fought, low-scoring affair could therefore unfold on Saturday.
