Sheffield Wednesday will aim to kick-start their EFL Trophy campaign when they welcome Burton Albion to Hillsborough on Tuesday night.

Having lost their first game, Sheff Wed find themselves rock bottom of Group H – below Burton Albion, Bradford City and Leicester City U21.

Meanwhile, Burton sit atop the table – three points clear of Sheff Wed – after winning their opening EFL Trophy clash.

Sheff Wed suffered a 3-1 loss to Bradford on Matchday 1. Despite racking up 59% possession and eight shots, they failed to avoid defeat.

However, the Owls have lost just two of their nine League One games this season. As a result, they find themselves fourth in the table – four points behind first-place Ipswich Town.

When you look at the bigger picture, Sheff Wed have only suffered three defeats in 11 games across all competitions this season.

Having come from 2-0 down to rescue a 2-2 draw against high-flying Ipswich on Saturday, the Owls will head into Tuesday’s clash with a spring in their step.

As for Burton, they thrashed Leicester U21 4-2 in their first EFL Trophy match of the campaign – with Gassan Ahadme bagging a brace.

Remarkably, Burton found themselves 4-0 up within the opening 12 minutes of that clash before conceding twice before half-time.

Burton head into Tuesday’s game on the back of a 2-0 victory over Exeter City. That said, they have only managed to win one of their nine League One game this season.

Following a poor start to their league campaign, Burton find themselves rock bottom of the League One table with the worst defensive record in the division.

Head-to-head: Sheff Wed did the league double over Burton last season, winning 2-0 away and 5-2 on home soil.

The two sides have faced each other on six occasions since 2016, producing two Sheff Wed wins, two Burton wins and two draws.

Team news: Sheff Wed’s danger man is Josh Windass, who has bagged three goals and four assists in eight games across all competitions this term.

On the flip side, Gassan Ahadme has racked up five goals and two assists for Burton this season. Mustapha Carayol is sidelined with a knee injury.

Given that fourth-place Sheff Wed lead last-place Burton by 13 points in the League One table, all the signs point towards a home win here.
