Cologne to sneak narrow away win at Nice

Thursday night brings us the opening games of the group stage of this season’s Europa Conference League and it features this upcoming Matchday 1 clash between French hosts, Nice, and their German visitors, Cologne, in this important Group D clash at Allianz Riviera.
It’s been a disappointing start to this new season for the hosts, Nice, as the Ligue 1 side have managed to pick up just two wins out of their opening eight competitive matches to date, one of which was a decisive 2nd leg 2-0 home win against Israeli side, Maccabi Tel Aviv in a play-off tie in the Europa Conference League.
The other came in the form of a 2-1 win away at Lille in Ligue 1 but four defeats within this period as well means that Nice will be keen to get off to a good start in the group stage of this competition.
Forward Delort (2 goals) will be eager to add to his goal tally here.
Cologne recorded a resounding 4-2 win away at Wolfsburg in the domestic Bundesliga on the weekend which also extended the visitors’ unbeaten run in all competitions to four games.
They’ll make their way to France in confident mood on Thursday evening.
Despite losing 2-1 at home to Hungarian outfit in the 1st leg of their play-off tie, Cologne stormed back with a 3-0 win away from home in the 2nd leg to secure their place in the group stage of the Europa Conference League, while points picked up in draws with Eintracht Frankfurt and Stuttgart will also have given the visitors a boost.
Cologne are also unbeaten in their last four matches away from home too, and they’ll be hoping to replicate the previous result on the road at Fehervar on Thursday night.
They too seek to get themselves off to a winning start in their respective Europa Conference League campaign.
Austrian midfield duo, Ljubicic and Kainz (2 goals apiece) look to be the danger men for the German visitors as they have notched two goals each to date this term, while forwards Adamyan and Dietz have also scored this season and will no doubt be keen to add to their goal tallies on Thursday night.
Nice hold home advantage but Cologne bring the better momentum into this clash.
