A High-Scoring Classic Expected Between Stuttgart and Freiburg in the Bundesliga
VfB Stuttgart vs SC Freiburg - 20/08/2022
3396
With two very different starts to the latest Bundesliga season, SC Freiburg will get back on the road as they meet with Stuttgart at the Mercedes-Benz Arena with the away outfit sitting up in seventh after two games of the campaign.
Freiburg were excellent last season and they are now preparing for Europa League action this season with their sixth-placed finish forcing them back into Europe.
The club finished with 15 wins from 34 games that campaign, drawing 10 of the fixtures and losing only nine - this was the same amount of games lost as second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
The German side also saw 58 goals scored that season, and with just 46 let in, only Mainz, Union Berlin, RB Leipzig and the top two sides conceded fewer goals than they did.
Freiburg have now entered this new season with great hope at closing the three-point gap on the Champions League from last season.
This attempt did start perfectly in their opening game against Augsburg where they thrashed the club 4-0 on their own patch. Michael Gregoritsch continued his heroics of last season with a goal in the second half, before Vincenzo Grifo and Matthias Ginter added more goals in the second 45.
Ritsu Doan eventually made it four with all four goals coming in the second half. Freiburg were ruthless that day, and despite seeing just 45% of the ball, they witnessed seven shots on target from a total of 17 efforts.
Gregoritsch would score again the game later to give his side the lead for a second game running, but a ruthless last 15 minutes from Dortmund ended the game 3-1 and registered Freiburg's first defeat of the season. Another seven shots on target would come their way, however, in what was another solid attacking display.
Stuttgart are also on a two-game winless run at the start of the new season, with them drawing twice and scoring three times.
RB Leipzig were up first for them, as Naouirou Ahamada scored in the first half to cancel out a constant threat from Leipzig's attackers in a 1-1 draw.
Stuttgar clashed with Werder Bremen in the second game of the season, as Waturu Endo netted a goal in the first half.
Brutally, however, a 95th-minute equaliser from Bremen forced another draw after Silas Katompa Mvumpa scored a well-taken goal towards the end of the game.
Forebet predicts a win here for Freiburg in a game that should see over 2.5 goals.
