This weekend sees further action from the Brazilian top flight and Sunday features this upcoming Serie A clash between mid-table Avai and their lowly third from bottom visitors, Cuiaba, when the two teams meet at the Estádio Aderbal Ramos da Silva.
Avai will be keen to return to the sort of form which saw the hosts pick up back to back wins in recent weeks in the domestic top flight with victories gained over Botafogo and Fortaleza.
Although their last two games have resulted with a 2-0 defeat away from home at 6th placed Fluminense and a 2-2 draw at home with the Serie A league leaders, Palmeiras.
The latter result in particular was a commendable point for Avai and although the hosts have managed to muster just two wins out of their previous nine games overall, they will be boosted by their recent form on home soil at their Estádio Aderbal Ramos da Silva.
A solid run of results at home have seen Avai suffer just one defeat in their last nine matches, failing to score just once, so they look in good shape to add to their points tally here.
Sunday’s visitors, Cuiaba, find themselves occupying a lowly third from bottom position in the Serie A standings having managed to win just three of their 14 matches played to date in this season’s campaign.
Cuiaba bring a four-match winless run into Sunday’s encounter at the Estádio Aderbal Ramos da Silva having drawn with Bragantino and Ceara along with defeats inflicted upon them by Flamengo and Goias, both of which were away from home.
The bigger picture looks just as bleak for Cuiaba as they have registered just one win out of their last 11 matches overall in Serie A, that coming in the shape of a 1-0 home win against Corinthians but this poor sequence of results also include six defeats as well.
In addition, Cuiaba have also lost their last five away games on the trot, suffering defeats on the road at Santos, Sao Paulo, America Mineiro, Flamengo and Goias while conceding a total of 11 goals and scoring just 3 in reply, so they look to have their work cut out at Avai on Sunday.
Avai therefore look the more likely for the points in this clash.
