Hungary vs Germany - 11/06/2022

Hungary started the UEFA Nations League in excellent form with a 1-0 win against England. The Hungarians followed up the victory with a 2-1 loss to Italy and currently sit second in Group 3.
Now, Hungary will face off with Germany, seeking three massive points. Germany have two points from six points on offer in the group. The Germans drew 1-1 with Italy before drawing once more with England 1-1.
Hansi Flick’s team cruised through World Cup qualifying against some of Europe’s weaker teams.
The UEFA Nations League has been more difficult for Germany. The Germans have faced some stiff competition and failed to win any of their current Nations League games.
Germany hold a strong head-to-head record against Hungary in the teams’ last five encounters. The Germans have a record of 3W-1D-1L in the last five matches dating back to 2001.
Hungary and Germany played at the Euro 2020 tournament with the match ending 2-2. Germany had to come from behind twice to claim the draw.
Adam Szalai scored in the 11th minute to put Hungary into the lead. Kai Havertz levelled the score on 66 minutes, but Hungary’s Andras Schafer put the Hungarians back into two minutes later. Leon Goretzka scored with six minutes left to give Germany a share of the spoils.
Head coach Marco Rossi should deploy Hungary in a 3-4-2-1 formation once more. He used Szalai as the team’s lone striker with Dominik Szoboszlai and Roland Sallai to support the striker.
The formation hasn’t led to much scoring, although Hungary have had chances. Hungary have scored twice in the Nations League courtesy of a penalty and own goal.
Flick has also played a 3-4-2-1 formation at the Nations League. Havertz led the line against England on matchday 2 with Thomas Mueller and Jamal Musiala playing in support. Jonas Hofman came off the bench to score for Germany.
Germany’s goals at the Nations League have come from midfielder with Joshua Kimmich scoring in game No. 1 and Hofman scoring in game two. Flick needs his high-powered group of attacking players to start finding the back of the net.
Hungary and Germany drew last summer at the Euros when the teams played in Munich.
The two sides will meet in Budapest this time around, but the result should be the same. Hungary and Germany should finish 1-1, marking the third straight draw for the Germans at this summer’s Nations League.
