Two Relegation Fighters to Draw on the Final Day as Alavés and Cádiz Clash
Deportivo Alavés vs Cadiz CF - 22/05/2022
1831
Deportivo Alaves will welcome Cadiz to the Mendizorrotza Stadium with the home side already down and out in La Liga while Cadiz still have everything to play for on the final day of the season.
Cadiz grabbed a famous point at home to champions and Champions League finalists Real Madrid last weekend, as Ruben Sobrino scored to cancel out Mariano Diaz's opener.
It has now brought the club to level on points with Mallorca in 17th, but with goals difference not a decisive factor in La Liga, they must now better the result of Mallorca, who battle with Osasuna away from home on the final day.
Sergio González's men can get through this with a draw, as long as Mallorca loses. A win for them, and a win for Cadiz would not be enough, with them level on points.
On the other hand, however, González could see his side move to as high as 16th, should Granada fail to beat Espanyol as Cadiz win.
Ultimately, a win is the aim for the away side here, as that may just be enough to get through given how Mallorca will not be the favourites to beat an Osasuna side aiming to stay inside the top 10 once more on the last day of the season.
Better yet for Cadiz, they’re meeting with the league’s worst team, and after losing to fellow relegated side, Levante 3-1, Alaves truly are in disarray here and just want the season to end.
The club are now five behind Mallorca in the safe zone of La Liga, and after losing to Levante, they've now moved to the bottom of the table and sit below the 19th-placed side by a point.
Alaves also have the worst record in the league on the goals front too, with them scoring a torrid 31 from 37 games, while also losing the most games this season with 22.
Ironically, they have won more than Cadiz with eight games compared to their seven, as the Álava side have beaten Espanyol, Villarreal, and Rayo Vallecano within the last five weeks.
However, the damage done to their survival hopes was done way before they put together these commendable results, and with them losing to Mallorca in between these wins, they’ve been down and out for some time now.
It’s set to be a close one given what is at stake here, and Forebet predicts the game to see under 2.5 goals and for there to be a draw.
