Can Wolverhampton Wanderers keep Manchester City from moving closer to the PL title?

Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of the few hopes Liverpool still have to win the Premier League title. On Wednesday night, Wolves host Manchester City in the Premier League at Molineux.

Manchester City go into matchday 36 with three points separating them from second-place Liverpool. Liverpool play on Tuesday night against Aston Villa and the Cityzens could move as many as six points clear of the Reds with two games left to play.

Pep Guardiola’s team has just one trophy left to win this season and that, of course, is the Premier League title. The Cityzens regained their title focus at the weekend with a 5-0 win against Newcastle United.

The win over the Magpies was the perfect response to being eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid at the semifinal stage. Manchester City took 16 points from the last 18 points available in the league. They scored 21 goals across those six games.

Man City’s 5-0 win over Newcastle United has them ahead of Liverpool on goal difference currently. The Cityzens have scored four more goals than Liverpool. The title could go down to goal difference.

Wolverhampton go into the game winless in four straight games. The wheels have come off for manager Bruno Lage as Wolves have struggled for wins recently.

Man City must be weary of Wolves, however. Wolverhampton are coming off of a come from behind 2-2 draw versus Chelsea. Wolves have a good head-to-head record against Chelsea with 3W-0D-3L across the teams last six games in all competitions.

The Cityzens did win the teams’ last three meetings in the league versus Wolves. Manchester City have the league’s strongest away points total with 42 from 17 games. They have conceded just eight away goals.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have struggled at home with a record of 7W-2D-8L. Lage’s team has been outscored at Molineux 19-18.

Guardiola could have a defensive crisis on Wednesday night as Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker, and John Stones are all set to miss the game through injuries. Nathan Ake should start in central defence.

Wolves winger Daniel Podence is a major doubt to play due to an ankle injury. Max Kilman is ruled out with a foot issue and Nelson Semedo will sit out with a thigh injury.

Manchester City are on a three-game winning streak versus Wolves. They should post another victory over the Old Gold by a score of 3-0.
