Nice were on target for a win against Marseille in August, but crowd trouble caused the game to be abandoned. The result of the abandoned game will cost both clubs points in the final Ligue 1 table at the end of the season.
With both clubs fighting for a top-three finish and place in next season’s Champions League, it the loss of points due to punishment could see them miss out on the competition. On Wednesday night, the game that was abandoned will be played once more from the start.
Nice are coming off of a thrilling home win on Sunday. The Eagles were down 2-0 to Lyon after 80 minutes but came back to win the game with three goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to win.
Marseille managed a nil-nil home draw with Paris Saint-Germain in Le Classique on Sunday night. The draw has allowed
Nice and Lens to pull two points closer to the league leaders.
However, Paris Saint-Germain still have a six seven-point lead over nearest rival Lens.
Nice took 10 points from the last 18 on offer in Ligue 1. Christoph Galtier’s team have won three of their last four league games going into the match in midweek.
Jorge Sampaoli’s team took eight points from the last 18 on offer. They are unbeaten in their last two fixtures going into the south coast derby on Wednesday night.
Galtier is unlikely to have the duo of Robson Bambu and Justin Kluivert available. Forward Youcef Atal changed the complexion of the game on Sunday against Lyon. He will be in line for a start. Star striker Amine Gouiri is now without a goal in three straight Nice games.
Sampaoli has a fully fit squad going into the game. With this being a hotly contested derby, Marseille’s second in the space of four days, Sampaoli should stick with the same squad.
Marseille are fourth in the league and 10 points off of Paris Saint-Germain. A win would take them above Nice in the standings.
A win for Nice would put them into second place and six points back of Paris Saint-Germain. If Nice can keep Paris Saint-Germain within touching distance ahead of their match on December 1, the Eagles could be an unlikely title contender in the second half of the season.
When the teams’ previous match was abandoned, Nice were winning 1-0 thanks to a Kasper Dolberg goal. However, with both teams in good form going into this game, the match should end in a score draw.
Wednesday’s game will be a hotly contested fixture. Both teams are desperate to take max points and keep pace with Paris Saint-Germain. However, Wednesday’s game will be a low-scoring match ending in a score draw.
