Bayer Leverkusen to Return to Winning Ways as They Edge Past the Impressive FC Koln

FC Koln and Bayer Leverkusen will clash in a vital meeting in the Bundesliga as the away side looks to get closer to Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich at the top while Koln look to break the top five this weekend.

It has been an exceptional start to the season in their own rights for both Koln and Leverkusen with the two usually scrapping it out further down the table.

However, Gerardo Seoane’s men are currently sitting in third just behind the big two sides in Germany and they could well get closer to Dortmund with a win.

It’s unlikely that we will see Leverkusen close the gap on Bayern as their goal difference right now is surpassing most in Europe with the likes of Robert Lewandowski still on fire for the champions.

Nevertheless, considering Leverkusen finished last season in sixth, this campaign has gathered a lot of hope recently and it could well continue here.

The club did recently draw 1-1 in Spain in the Europa League, however, as Real Betis couldn’t hold on for a point as Robert Andrich bagged in the 82nd minute to give Leverkusen a much-needed point in Europe.

It does also mean that they are back to winning ways, however, which is good news considering they were destroyed by Bayern last time out. In that game, the champions managed to win 5-1 as Patrik Schick managed to get a consolation goal in the second half.

Regardless of that result, Leverkusen are still in decent form and they are expected to a Koln side here who have also been in solid form of their own in the early stages of this Bundesliga campaign.

They are currently in seventh spot, which considering they finished in the relegation playoffs spot last season, is an excellent achievement and they are likely going to be clear of the drop zone for a while if this decent form continues.

Nevertheless, they did lose 5-0 to Hoffenheim recently and it was a sign that the club were slowing down and their great start to the season had hit a roadblock. It was, however, their only defeat in their last five games so it’s not all doom and gloom.

Regardless of their decent form, the 5-0 defeat to Hoffenheim was quite telling and Forebet predicts Leverkusen will get the win here as they hunt down Dortmund. The game should also see over 2.5 goals in what has been a high-scoring Bundesliga season already.
