Lazio will be hoping to build on an impressive win over Inter Milan when they welcome Marseille to the Stadio Olimpico in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Eagles sit second in Group E – one point behind first-place Galatasaray – having registered a win and a loss so far this season.
Meanwhile, Marseille find themselves third – one point behind Lazio – after drawing their opening two Europa League matches.
Lazio were beaten 1-0 by Galatasaray on Matchday 1, despite chalking up a whopping 13 attempts in Turkey.
They bounced back on Matchday 2, however, beating Lokomotiv Moscow 2-0 with a dominant display on home soil.
The Italians enjoyed 61% possession and recorded 21 shots against the Russians, with Toma Basic and Patric getting on the scoresheet.
On Saturday, Lazio beat Inter Milan 3-1 – flexing their muscles against the reining Serie A champions. Ciro Immobile, Felipe Anderson and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic grabbed the goals.
The Eagles have lost just two of their opening eight Serie A outings this term, picking up four wins and two draws along the way.
Although they have scored 18 league goals this season (2.25 goals per game), they have also conceded 13 (1.63 goals per game).
Marseille, meanwhile, kicked off their Europa League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Lokomotiv Moscow – despite seeing 74% of the ball and racking up 19 shots.
They were then held to a goalless draw by Galatasaray on Matchday 2, recording 65% possession and 11 attempts.
Marseille head into Thursday’s clash on the back of a big 4-1 victory over Lorient in the Ligue 1 on Sunday, with Matteo Guendouzi bagging a brace.
They have now won five of their nine league games this season, recording two draws and two losses along the way.
As a result, they find themselves third in the French top tier – one point behind second-place Lens and ten points shy of first-place PSG.
Head-to-head: These two sides meet during the 2018/19 Europa League campaign. Lazio won 3-1 away from home before beating Marseille 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.
Having faced each other on six occasions over the years, Marseille have just one win to their name. Lazio have beaten Marseille four times, with a single draw coming in 2005.
Team news: Lazio will be without injured winger Bobby Adekanye on Thursday. Thankfully for them, Ciro Immobile is back.
With key man Dimitri Payet back in the team following a calf problem, Marseille have no fresh injury concerns.
Although Marseille have started the season strongly, Lazio are expected to feed off the home crowd on Thursday.
Forbet predicts that Lazio will score over 2.5 goals on their way to dispatching Marseille on Matchday 3.
