Lyon and Monaco Set to Clash in a High-Scoring Draw in Ligue 1
3221

Lyon and Monaco will meet in a must-win clash over in Ligue 1 this weekend with both clubs yet to completely establish themselves on the domestic front this season as Lyon sit down in 10th while the away side are yet to break the top four.

Monaco have, however, begun to find some momentum and are beginning to pick up some form that may seem them edge into the top three and get closer to Paris Saint-Germain.

In reality, no club is going to get close to PSG this season and it does seem like a battle for second rather than the title for everyone else.

The club recently beat Bordeaux 3-0 with goals from Aurelien Tachouameni, Aleksandr Golovin and Wissam Ben Yedder in what was another convincing win by them. Just prior to this, Monaco also drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad as they picked up another point in the Europa League.

Niko Kovač’s side have also beaten Clermont Foot 3-1, St-Etienne 3-1 and drew with Nice 2-2 ever since their loss to Marseille a month ago, which means Monaco are just behind them in the table on goal difference now.

The Monégasques are now sitting with four wins, two draws and three defeats in Ligue 1, and whilst not in desperate need of a win, they can’t allow the likes of Nice and Angers to further establish themselves away from those outside the top four.

As for Lyon, they enter this game as one of Ligue 1’s least in-form sides and one of Europe’s most troubled teams right now with them expected to be right at the top end of the table.

Much of this comes in the absence of Memphis Depay, who moved to Barcelona after being the club’s top scorer for a number of years.

Lyon are currently slumped into mid-table in France’s top flight and with only 13 points on the board, it is pretty concerning for the club in these early stages of the new season. Peter Bosz’s side have drawn four games, lost two and only won three so far and a much-needed win here is vital.

What sort of sums up Lyon’s campaign right now is how they have only managed to score 14 goals of their own and concede 13, which all but shows why they are in 10th.

Nevertheless, this should be a close game with Lyon unbeaten in their last four games since losing to PSG, while this is their only loss in all competitions in their past nine fixtures.

Forebet predicts a game of over 2.5 goals here as both look to get on the scoresheet, however, a draw is also expected with their form being so similar.
