Internacional to Ease Past the Torrid Chapecoense This Weekend in Brazil
2521

Two teams with entirely contrasting forms this season will meet in the Brazilian Serie A as Internacional  in mid-table play hosts to Chapecoense right down at the bottom of the league in what is set to be a tough game for the soon-to-be relegated side.

In reality, it’s been a torrid year for Chapecoense. The club have only 12 points from 24 games this season and despite relegation not yet confirmed, and in fact, quite a way off being so, they are surely destined for Serie B after one of their worst campaigns in the top flight.

The club currently have just the one victory so far in the Brazilian first division, and this came a month almost to the day against Bragantino, as they ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Mike dos Santos Nenatarvicius and Anselmo Ramon.

Ramon did score in the 95th minute, however, and this all but sums up how poor they’ve been as they couldn’t even win without controversy.

Elsewhere, Chapecoense have lost 14 games and drawn the other nine and within this time, the club have let in a worrying 38 goals.

They have netted 24 of their own, however, which ironically, isn’t the worst in the league and clubs like Sao Paulo and Ceara in mid-table have scored the same amount.

Nevertheless, they are in shocking form and it does seem like a case of when rather than if they get relegated, and a victory here is not expected.

Internacional themselves are not without their own troubles this season and they have failed to find any sort of consistent form, which has forced them to fluctuate between the spots just outside of the top five.

They have moved down as low as 10th in recent weeks, but with wins of Fortaleza, Sport Recife and Bahia, they’ve moved into eighth and should be happy with their progress.

They did slip up a little recently, however, as Atletico Mineiro beat them 1-0 before they drew 0-0 with Ceara. Such results saw them move further away from the top end and for the remaining games, getting into the Copa Libertadores second stage spots should be their aim for the rest of the season.

Given how awful Chapecoense have been this campaign, it’s near impossible to back them in any game against a team this far up in the table.

On the other hand, Internacional have made relative ease of teams like this and Forebet predicts an easy win for them here.
