Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose will visit previous club Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow and Black are third in the Bundesliga and could move top of the standings with a win and results going their way elsewhere.
Borussia Monchengladbach are struggling to get out of the starting blocks under new coach Adi Hutter. The ex-Eintracht Frankfurt coach has struggled to get the side going and Borussia Monchengladbach are 16th in the Bundesliga standings after five matchdays.
Just four points have been taken by the Foals from 12 possible in the Bundesliga. Hutter’s team has posted a –4-goal difference with just five goals scored and nine allowed.
Borussia Dortmund have taken 12 points from 15 on offer in the league. Their last three games all ended in victories. The problem Rose has had at Signal Iduna Park is defending. Borussia Dortmund have conceded 11 times in five games while scoring 17 times.
The Yellow and Black are second in goals scored in the Bundesliga. Striker Erling Haaland has scored seven goals in five appearances in the league. He has four assists to go along with those seven goals. Haaland has tallied 11 of the team’s 17 goals this season.
Like the Yellow and Black, Borussia Monchengladbach have struggled in defence. One major European football podcast claims both Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund are struggling in defence due to the clubs formerly employing ex-coach Lucien Favre.
A number of players are out of action for Hutter including Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini, Stefan Lainer, and Mamadou Doucoure. Rose has several players struggling from injuries going into matchday 6.
Julian Brandt, Emre Can, Gio Reyna, and Dan-Axel Zagadou are all ruled out of the game. Nico Schulz is a doubt. With so many injuries, it would be expected that Borussia Dortmund would drop points against the Foals. However, Borussia Dortmund have Haaland.
These teams played three times last season with Borussia Dortmund winning two of the three games. The Yellow and Black won at home in the league 3-0, but lost the reverse Bundesliga fixture 4-2 to Borussia Monchengladbach. The Yellow and Black won the teams’ DFB Pokal game 1-0.
Borussia Dortmund may have lost last season at Borussia Park to the Foals 4-2, but they are in far better form currently. Rose should lead his new team past his old team to a victory.
Eleven of the last 15 games between these clubs finished with over 2.5 goals scored. Neither team defends well and the game on Saturday should finish with more than 2.5 goals and a Borussia Dortmund win.
