Marseille and Lens to both score

Olympique Marseille vs RC Lens - 26/09/2021

Marseille and Lens to both score

The French Ligue 1 action continues on Sunday evening with the late kick-off featuring the top four clash between 2nd placed Marseille and surprise package, 4th placed Lens, as the two teams face off at the Orange Velodrome.

Marseille have made a promising start to this new Ligue 1 campaign as the hosts still remain unbeaten after their opening six games of this new term, winning four and drawing twice so far this season.

Victories over Montpellier 3-2, Saint-Etienne 3-1, Monaco 2-0 and a 2-0 win against Rennes along with points picked up in draws with Bordeaux and Angers have helped give Marseille a solid and encouraging start to this season.

The bigger picture shows that Marseille have lost just one of their last 14 matches overall in Ligue 1 which includes eight wins, while results and form at their Orange Velodrome ground has seen Marseille unbeaten in their last 11 matches.

Eight wins within this 11-match sequence suggests Marseille will be tough to beat again on Sunday evening as they look to keep pace with PSG.

Onto Lens, and the visitors have also made a promising start to this new French top flight campaign as they occupy 4th place in Ligue 1 thanks to wins against Monaco, Bordeaux and Lille whilst also picking up points in draws with the likes of Rennes, Saint-Etienne and Lorient.

Tipped to be amongst the pack of teams expected to be fighting against relegation, Lens started with an unbeaten run of six matches without a loss but the visitors tasted defeat for the first time this season in midweek when they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Strasbourg.

Lens will therefore be careful to avoid another defeat this Sunday evening when they travel to Marseille as they look to preserve the good work and results that they’ve achieved so far, especially as they’ve lost just four of their last 24 matches overall in Ligue 1.

Away from home, Lens have lost just two of their last 13 matches on their travels which also gives the visitors a decent chance of walking away from the Orange Velodrome with something to show for their efforts.

However, Lens have beaten Marseille just once in their previous nine meetings so perhaps goals for both teams looks the more likely outcome here.
