PSG to roll on against Montpellier

The French Ligue 1 action continues on Saturday with hosts, PSG, seeking to record an eighth league win on the trot when they entertain Montpellier to the Parc des Princes with the home side looking in ominous form already this season.

PSG were perhaps fortunate to grab all three points against Metz as the Parisian club needed a last-gasp winner from Hakimi to secure the maximum points but this is also a trademark of title winners and there’s no doubt that PSG have made a statement of their intentions to the rest of the division with seven wins on the trot.

The bigger picture also paints an ominous picture for visitors, Montpellier, as PSG have now won 13 of their last 14 matches overall in the French top flight, while form at home has also produced six wins on the trot as well.

The hosts are expected to be without a raft of personnel for this upcoming clash against Montpellier with the likes of defenders, Bernat, Ramos, Dagba and Kurzawa all out through injury, along with midfielder Vrrati and new signing Messi, but only 4 games have been played by these missing six players in total.

Montpellier have made a reasonable start to this new Ligue 1 season as the visitors sit mid-table in 10th place having lost just twice in their opening seven games of this new season.

Victories over Lorient and Saint-Etienne in 3-1 and 2-0 wins respectively along with points picked up in draws with Reims, Troyes and Bordeaux have at least kept Montpellier away from early trouble.

Although it’s worth noting that both of Montpellier’s wins to date have been achieved on home turf at their Stade de la Mosson.

However, the prospects of an away win here do seem slim as Montpellier have managed to collect just three wins out of their last 15 matches on their travels in the French top flight along with losing four games, while the draw has figured prominently with no fewer than eight stalemates during this sequence of results.

Although, 13 of Montpellier’s last 15 away games have also resulted in under 5 goals as well.

PSG have won the previous five meetings on the trot against Montpellier and the hosts should continue this trend on Saturday night, although it may be a relatively high-scoring game.
