Brazil tipped to gain Copa America revenge over Argentina

South America’s biggest sides go head-to-head in Sao Paulo on Sunday as Brazil host Argentina for a vital 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Less than two months ago, Argentina got the better of Brazil – beating their bitter rivals 1-0 in the 2021 Copa America final.

The Brazilians will be desperate to gain revenge this time around, enhancing their impressive WCQ record in the process.

Brazil have won all seven of their qualifiers so far, scoring a whopping 17 goals while conceded just twice along the way.

As a result, they find themselves six points clear at the top of the CONMEBOL qualification group, with Argentina in second place.

When you look at the bigger picture, Brazil haven’t lost any of their previous 24 World Cup qualifiers, so they will be confident of avoiding defeat on Sunday.

It is also worth remembering that Brazil have only lost two of their last 37 matches across all competitions.

Despite seeing just 39% possession, Brazil beat Chile 1-0 in midweek. Everton Riberio netted the only goal of the game as the Brazilians extended their 100% WCQ record.

Meanwhile, Argentina beat Venezuela 3-1 last time out, with Lautaro Martinez, Joaquin Correa and Angel Correa getting the goals.

The Argentines totally dominated the game, racking up 17 shots – ten of which were on target – while enjoying 73% possession.

Argentina remain unbeaten in World Cup qualifying, having picked up four wins and three draws this campaign.

However, they have scored five goals less than Brazil and have also conceded four goals more than their fierce rivals.

After seeing off Brazil in the Copa America final, Argentina head into Sunday’s clash on 15-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Head-to-head: The recent head-to-head record between these two sides is very even, with both teams winning three of their previous six meetings.

Although Argentina have won each of the last two meetings, Brazil only lost one of the six matches before that.

Team news: Brazil’s Everton Ribeiro will be pushing for a start after coming off the bench and scoring the winner in midweek.

Argentina could restore Paulo Dybala to the starting XI, while Angel Correa and Joaquin Correa will be hoping to start after scoring last time out.

Although Argentina beat Brazil in the Copa America final, it is difficult to imagine Brazile throwing away their 100% WCQ record this weekend.

For that reason, Forebet predicts that Brazil will get the better of Argentina on Sunday. A clean sheet is also on the cards for the home side.
